The fear one feels after sliding down the incline of The Convincer at ten to
twelve kilometers an hour and then jerking to a halt is enough to convince
anyone to always wear seat belt.
The Convincer, is also a tool
used as part of safety campaign for many companies, School, Collages and
Government organizations
The Convincer consists of an occupant component for a driver in a car seat. The
volunteer is strapped in with a five-point harness, unlike the normal seatbelt
which has three points. It’s poised on a ramp which it’s firmly secured to.
It is then released down an incline at a speed of ten kilometers an hour.
“When it comes to a complete stop, your body still moves at the previous speed.
The seatbelt locks you into place. But you could still feel the impact of an
accident at that speed which is much slower than the normal speed,” said Tahseen
Hassan, director of Convincer Inc.
“It convinces any person who was not a believer before that a seatbelt saves
lives irrespective of his education or family background and social status,” he said.
“We had just reached a point where we were getting effected by hearing about all the senseless
road accidents and fatalities which could have been avoided if people were
educated about the dangers of driving under the influence, driving fatigued, not
wearing their seatbelt and speeding,” he said.
Arrive Alive is a progressive road safety campaign created with the positive and
passionate energy to impact and influence driving behavior on Pakistan's roads.
“We begin with the premise that all vehicular accidents are avoidable and all
vehicular accidents are the result of some sort of human indiscretion or poor
judgment.”
He said their ultimate goal is to eliminate road fatalities and minimize
incidents and accidents on the roads of Pakistan.
“Our campaign goes way beyond just the seat belt and defensive driving training. It’s about modifying the
behavior of
drivers and creating a whole new generation of safe drivers in Pakistan.
“While we are aggressively seeking to change the behavior of people on the
road, our main focus is to change the behavior of the younger generation of
drivers,” he added.
